Many of us travel daily for work, school, shopping, or visiting loved ones. Unfortunately, most of these trips are made in cars that use fossil fuels, which increases carbon emissions.
Not everyone can switch to alternative transport, but many can. This theme aims to encourage those who can, to make changes. If everyone reduces short car trips a little, it could greatly lower emissions.
The council will create more safe spaces for walking and cycling so that these become the preferred options for short trips.
To promote walking and cycling, especially in town centres, the council will support the Mayor’s ‘Streetspace for London’ plan.
To help transition to electric and hydrogen vehicles, which are better for the environment, we have installed over 200 electric vehicle charging points (EVCP) in the borough. The goal is for all residents to be within a 5-minute walk of an EVCP by 2025.
