Climate and ecological strategy

What we are doing

Our climate and ecological emergency strategy shows how we will work towards making our borough carbon neutral.

We will focus on 5 key areas in which we feel we can make the most difference to produce less pollution and help nature. The themes are:

Our goals

We are working hard in many different areas to help tackle climate change, and to help people feel the benefits of climate action.

Electric cars

We are making it easier for people to charge electric cars by adding 400 new charging points on our streets every year. This will help make it easier for people and businesses to switch to electric vehicles, reducing the number of diesel and petrol cars.

We have over 1,000 charging points in the borough and will keep adding more

Warm and cool homes

We are also improving our council homes to use less energy. On the Village Park Estate, 44 council homes are getting a 'deep retrofit' which is a major upgrade to a building that makes it much more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.

Our free Healthy Homes Ealing service gives advice on saving energy at home and can help you find grants to pay for improvements. We have already made thousands of small and medium upgrades across the borough to help with the switch to cleaner energy.

Better food for everyone

We started the Ealing Food Partnership which brings together groups, businesses, and residents to make sure everyone has access to good, healthy food.

Our borough is now one of the best places in London for healthy food, according to independent reports.

This group will help cut greenhouse gas emissions and make healthy, seasonal, and sustainable food easier to find. We are also adding more food waste bins in flats. Over 95% of our roadside homes have access to food waste recycling, and 38% of flats.

Greener spaces

We want the borough to have the best parks and open spaces, making it a green and family-friendly place.

We are planting 50,000 trees and making sure nature is protected and improving biodiversity and air quality.

We are also improving parks and building new green spaces for everyone to enjoy.

Checking our progress

Every 2 years we look at how we are doing and share what has been done in our community towards tackling the crisis.
