Top-ups or third party top up payments
Although the council will make sure that your “personal budget” is enough to meet your needs, you may wish to voluntarily choose a residential placement where the weekly charges are higher than your “personal budget” following your support planning discussion.
In these circumstances, a “third party” can offer to ‘top up’ your personal budget to pay the additional cost towards the care home charges, however they will need to undergo an “Affordability Financial Assessment“.
Any ‘top ups’ should be discussed with your social worker to make sure that you are receiving the correct support and are paying the right amount.
