How the council considered equality
The council considered how decisions about RISE services would affect different groups of people, particularly those who may face barriers to accessing support.
RISE provides services from more than 30 locations across the borough and also offers support in places such as health facilities, housing services and at criminal justice sites. This helps make services more accessible for people experiencing homelessness, disability, poor health or other challenges.
When deciding to locate services at Southall Town Hall, the council used and updated the findings of the borough-wide Equality Impact Assessment carried out when the RISE service was commissioned in 2018.
The council looked at:
- who uses the service locally
- how easy the site would be to reach
- transport links
- whether the move could affect people with protected characteristics
- the effect on other groups who may need additional support
Where potential barriers were identified, the council worked with partners to put appropriate measures in place to help make sure people could continue to access services.
