Action to tackle anti-social behaviour
The police and the council have been working together to address anti-social behaviour and crime in and around Southall through a combination of enforcement, patrols and support services.
Police activity has resulted in more than 100 arrests and interventions.
This includes action against:
- suspected drug dealers
- wanted offenders
- people carrying weapons
- people breaching court orders
- people breaking bail conditions
Weapons have been seized and some offenders have been recalled to prison.
Southall town centre has more public safety CCTV coverage than many parts of the borough, and the council is continuing to invest in additional coverage.
The council has also increased Parkguard patrols and used CCTV to help identify and respond to incidents.
At the same time, it is recognised that many individuals involved are vulnerable and require support as well as enforcement. As a result, people are being connected with homelessness, drug treatment, mental health and welfare services.
To improve transparency and public confidence, the council will continue to work closely with the Metropolitan Police and community safety partners to promote reporting routes for incidents and concerns.
Information on crime and anti-social behaviour is already published by the Metropolitan Police at ward level and is regularly shared through local ward panel meetings. The Safer Ealing Partnership also reports on crime and anti-social behaviour trends through its annual scrutiny reporting.
The aim is not only to reduce problems in the short term but also to improve safety and quality of life for local residents over the longer term.
