Get Southall Moving
In the borough of Ealing, Southall has the highest proportion of self-reported bad or very bad health including:
- Highest rate of diabetes – 1.6 times the borough average
- Highest rate of high blood pressure – 1.2 times the borough average
Being physically active is good for these conditions, and walking, cycling, and other forms of active travel are the most effective ways to incorporate regular physical activity into your daily routine.
But, with high levels of traffic causing congestion and air pollution, it’s not always healthy or safe to do this in Southall.
What is Ealing Council doing about it?
To tackle these issues by making it safer and easier for everyone to get moving, Ealing Council, in partnership with Let’s Go Southall, spoke to the community in May and June 2023 to find out what changes they would like to see.
We received over 800 responses from a series of in-person pop-up events in Southall and an online survey telling us that residents would like to see:
- Better street lighting
- More trees, plants and greenery
- Safer crossings
Using this feedback, the council has reviewed their ideas for Southall and will continue to work with the community in an open, transparent and constructive way – in line with the Travel in Ealing Charter.
What’s included in the Get Southall Moving plans?
