Resident involvement
Residents are encouraged to be fully involved in the regeneration planning of the estate and they remain the central focus of all regeneration works the council undertakes.
At the very beginning of the process the council worked with residents to find a partner to regenerate Copley Close estate. At the second stage of the procurement process, the council received two submissions from developers. After close examination, the council felt that the proposals did not match the vision the council and residents had set for a radical transformation of the estate.
Surveys identified priorities for investment in homes and communal areas across the estate. From a housing needs survey, the council has a better idea about what type and size of new homes residents would require to ensure their current and future needs can continue to be met.
The council has continued to consult with residents about developing improvement plans at public meetings and through the Copley Close Residents Improvement Group (now Resident Steering Group).
The council held the first public meeting about the future of Copley Close in November 2011. Residents were also involved in the selection of the design team and have been consulted from the outset regarding the development of the proposals and each phase of works.
This engagement process continues throughout the regeneration project via methods such as drop-in sessions, ongoing housing need surveys, and monthly RSG meetings.
