Private rented property licensing schemes have been introduced in order to improve property conditions and management standards in the borough's private rented sector.
This means that if you own or manage a private rented property within designated parts of the borough it is a legal requirement to obtain a property licence. Licences come with conditions that relate to the use and management of the property.
Following a public consultation in 2021 on the introduction of new additional HMO and selective licensing schemes, Cabinet agreed the proposals on 8 December 2021. A boroughwide additional HMO scheme and a small selective licensing scheme (3 wards) came into force on 1 April 2022.
On 15 June 2022 Cabinet agreed proposals for a second larger selective licensing scheme (12 wards). Due to the size of the scheme, approval was also needed from the government (Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities) and this was received on 7 September 2022. Licence application training
The council will be giving training to landlords and agents on how to submit a licence application online.
The training session will be held on Wednesday 7 December 2022 between 6.30-8.30pm. It will be delivered online using Microsoft Teams.
