Flats above shops recycling service (trial)
As of March 2024, Ealing Council launched a new food waste recycling trial service for flats above shops (FAS).
The trial allows residents living in FAS to recycle their food waste for the first time.
Additional to this new service, we are also trialling a new method of containing rubbish using a new type of communal rubbish bin.
Trial locations
- 261A-297A Allenby Road, Southall
- 12-24 The Avenue, West Ealing
- 141-177 Rectory Parade, Northolt
- 6-40 Bilton Road, Perivale
- 51-77 The Grove, Ealing
The larger green bins are for your rubbish only and for the sole use of the FAS. Any shops found to be using these bins will be investigated, fined and/or prosecuted for failing in their duty of care.
You will continue to receive your clear mixed recycling sacks 3 times a year.
Please put your clear sacks next to the green rubbish bins for collection no earlier than the night before of your collection day.
At the start of the trial you would have been given a kitchen caddy and a free roll of compostable liners for your food waste.
Once these liners run out, residents will be responsible for getting their own.
You can also line your kitchen caddy with newspaper instead.
If your kitchen caddy is broken or damaged, you can use any type of household container, for example an ice cream type or unused Tupperware. Alternatively, you can buy a new one.
Reporting issues
Residents or the public can report an issue with a container servicing the FAS through their online account.
Issues can include:
- missed collections
- broken bins
- mis-use of bins
- overflowing bins
