South Acton Estate

Resident involvement

Acton Gardens is committed to working in partnership with residents and community organisations on the regeneration of the South Acton estate.

During the selection of a partner to help the council regenerate South Acton, a resident-led developer selection group held regular meetings to give their views on proposals from a number of bidders.

The council have worked closely with residents to organise a wide range of workshops, exhibitions and meetings to ensure the master plan for South Acton fully reflected the views of residents.

Community board

The community board meets quarterly at the new Acton Gardens community centre and is made up of residents, councillors, representatives of local groups and regeneration partners. The board helps oversee the regeneration of the estate and decide how the annual community fund (known as chest) of £50,000 is spent to support local community groups for the benefit of everyone in South Acton.

Community initiatives

Cultivate London

Cultivate are a London-based voluntary sector organisation who train unemployed young people in the local area in horticulture. Cultivate London also work with the local Acton Gardens school to teach school children about how they can grow fruit and vegetables. Cultivate have previously operated a nursery on the estate, and their plants and shrubs have been used within the landscaping of the new development.

Activities

Acton Garden assists a variety of activities designed to encourage the community to come together throughout the year. Some of the events include:

  • annual construction skills event
  • summer holidays event
  • outdoor cinema nights

Social life study

Acton Gardens carries out an in-depth social study every two years that looks to collect opinions of residents, and wider stakeholders, within the South Acton area. Results from the study are used to inform improvements to the regeneration works and our engagement methods.
