The role of the sheltered housing officer
A sheltered housing officer (SHO) is available Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm.
They assess the needs of new sheltered housing tenants and review these every 6 months or when asked.
This helps make sure tenants get the services they need to maintain their independence and quality of life.
An SHO provides support by:
- being your contact and visiting as needed
- giving information and advice about housing options
- helping set up support and additional care options
- assisting with day-to-day organisation, like arranging doctor appointments
- encouraging and organising resident activities and events
- working with your family, carers, and external agencies to assess and review additional needs
- helping set up resident associations to liaise with the council for feedback and improvements
They are also responsible for:
- day to day operations, security, and health and safety issues
- monitoring and reporting repairs, cleaning, and security issues in communal areas
- being fire aware and reporting any fire safety concerns
