Public sector equality duty

Consultation

When we carry out consultation we benchmark responses against the information that we hold about our residents. We do this by asking respondents to provide us with information on the protected characteristics.

When making decisions about future delivery of services we undertake appropriate consultation with service users and staff, with outcomes from these consultations fed into decision-making processes for senior officers and members. The results of these consultations are made available to the public once they have been completed, to enable the public to see the impact of the consultation on decision-making. In enabling decision-makers to have “due regard” to potential equality issues in this way, the council’s approach to allocating resources not only coheres with its strategic equalities objectives, but also complies with specific aspects of appropriate equality legislation.
