Council workforce data

The council collects data on its workforce - a summary is provided in the council employee equalities data document.

Workforce Strategy

The Ealing Council Workforce Strategy  contains key equalities information relating to the people employed by the council. It shows that employees from Asian and Black minority groups are well represented, and that a higher than average percentage of people over the age of 65 are employed. Overall the London Borough of Ealing compares favourably with the average figures of the other London boroughs in terms of diversity.

A principle aim of the strategy is for the council’s workforce to reflect the local community which it serves. On the whole this is an aim that we as a council are making significant progress towards. However we recognise that there are gaps, notably people with disabilities are underrepresented compared to the local population, as are ethnic minority workers at more senior levels. Over time we will continue to make efforts to address this issue and the strategy sets out our goals to take action to address inequalities and under-representation of groups in different parts of our workforce.

Staff Survey

The Ealing Council Staff Survey 2013 provides some information on equality in the workplace. The overwhelming majority of staff (86%) report they are able to cope with the demands of their job, most staff feel they receive adequate support from colleagues (71%) and their manager (67%), and 60% of staff feel supported if things go wrong at work.

A majority of staff report that they have not experienced discrimination within the past year, 12% say they have experienced a fair amount of discrimination of some form. Nearly seven out of ten staff feel that they are treated with fairness and respect and 66% of staff believe the council is an equal opportunities employer.
