Garden waste and composting

Garden waste that is sent to landfill is harmful to the environment, rotting to produce greenhouse gases such as methane. The council does not collect garden waste as part of your refuse collection.

To dispose of garden waste, you can sign up to the garden waste collection service and have your garden waste conveniently collected from your home each fortnight. It is then recycled and turned into compost.

Garden waste can also be taken to the re-use and recycling centre, where it is also turned into compost.

Alternatively you can have a go at composting at home.
