How the carer’s emergency card works
When you apply for a carer’s emergency card, you will also make an emergency plan.
In your plan, you can name up to 3 people who know the person you care for and can help out in an emergency.
Top tips
When making your plan, you should:
- talk to friends or family who can help in an emergency
- check if they are happy to be called at any time (day or night)
- give them a spare key, or tell them where to get one
- make sure they are happy for you to share their details with the council
- make sure they know about the care plan, or where to find it
- tell them what the person you care for needs each day
- show them where to find things like medicine, incontinence pads, hearing aids or anything else they may need
- write down routines, likes and dislikes to help them
- tell them about any other care visits, like a nurse or home care
How your plan is used
Your plan is saved on the social care database and is available 24 hours a day.
If anything happens, the emergency services can call Ealing Council and give the reference number on your card.
We will then use your emergency plan to make sure that the care continues for the person you care for.
