- make recycling more convenient for households
- help prevent animals from ripping open rubbish sacks
- help keep our streets cleaner
- stop recycling materials from being blown away from open containers

Blue recycling wheeled bin
Your blue wheeled bin is for household items that can be recycled.
Your blue bin will be collected every other week with your small green food waste bin.

Black rubbish wheeled bin
Your black wheeled bin is for household rubbish that cannot be recycled.
The less you put in this bin, the less gets incinerated.

Wheeled bin size
Most households will use a standard sized wheeled bin. The standard bin is 180 litres, which can hold up to 4 rubbish bags.
The larger bins are 360 litres and can hold up to 7 rubbish bags. You may be able to get a larger rubbish bin if you have a large household, a medical need or other reason. Before we agree to this, we will check that you are recycling as much as you can. If your request is approved and you buy a larger bin, we will remove your old bin after the new one is delivered.

A new or replacement standard bin costs £50, and the larger bin costs £75.
Communal bins
Some locations are not suitable for our blue or black wheeled bins and we offer communal bins for recycling and rubbish at these properties.
Flats above shops
If you live in a flat above a shop, your rubbish and recycling collection are collected differently.
Rubbish
- place loose black sacks at a specific collection point - to avoid animals ripping open your sacks, put your rubbish out in the morning or as late as possible the evening before collection day
Recycling
- clear mixed recycling sack service - these rolls are provided free of charge 3 times a year - they make recycling easier and help reduce the amount of rubbish in your black sacks.

You can find out which service your property can use and your collection day by entering your postcode in the collection day finder
Putting your rubbish or recycling out more than one day outside of your collection day may be seen as fly tipping.
Switching rubbish and recyling collection types
Residents or managing agents who wish to switch from sacks to communal bins should telephone customer services on 020 8825 6000 or ask through your online account. The site will need to be assessed for its suitability.
Communal bins can be purchased from the council, and collections will be free of charge.

Bulky items collection
We offer a bulky items collection service - you can request a collection of up to 6 items that are too big for the bin such as sofas, beds, wardrobes and fridge/freezers (non-commercial fridge/freezer). This service costs £30.
