Statement from Ealing Council

Learning Review findings

Robert South, Strategic Director, Children’s Services, Ealing Council said:

“Firstly, on behalf of everyone at Ealing Council, I give our sincere condolences to Shakira’s family. The impact of Shakira’s senseless murder on so many people is incomprehensible.

“We wholly recognise too the truly traumatic experiences of all the children involved in what is an extraordinarily shocking case.

“We fully accept the findings and the recommendations in the learning review, and we are sorry that different interventions were not undertaken to better protect the children involved, and Shakira.

“We take our safeguarding responsibilities extremely seriously and are implementing all the recommendations from the review in full.  We have already made significant changes to our practices and procedures.

“We thank the independent reviewer for their time and care throughout the review process.”

A statement has also been published by Robert McCulloch Graham the Independent Chair of the Ealing Safeguarding Adults Board and Ealing Safeguarding Children Partnership.
