Department for Transport (DfT): Additional funding for potholes and surfacing

Ealing has been awarded nearly £600k over the financial years of 2023/24 and 2024/25. The funding has been made possible by the government reallocating HS2 funding and it will enable delivery of the additional surfacing schemes shown below;

  • Atlas Road, Park Royal (roundabout)
  • Gunnersbury Lane, Acton (by Acton Town Station)
  • Norwood Road, Southall (roundabout)
  • Petts Hill, Northolt (roundabout)
  • South Ealing Road, Ealing (town centre)
  • Uxbridge Road, Acton (Gunnersbury Lane junction)

The schemes were selected using condition surveys by Transport for London (TfL) and also feedback from our engineers. We selected busy junctions which are known to be in poor condition (red) on the survey results, this will maximise the impact this additional funding has on our network.

Approximately 2,500m2 of road will be resurfaced using strong and durable materials which are designed to withstand the heavy traffic flows expected, and although they will be disruptive to deliver (noise or road closures) the overall benefit for cyclists and other road users will outweigh any disruption we may cause.

At Gunnersbury Lane by Acton Town Station there is also a separate proposal to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists, both schemes complement each other and will help us to get more value for money.

We have already completed the schemes at Atlas Road and South Ealing Road, and the remainder are expected to be complete by Spring 2025.

The additional funding provided by the DfT was very welcome and has assisted the borough and its residents considerably, and we are hoping that further allocations will be made if available, as we work towards improving the road network for you.
