Ealing Fields high school road safety consultation

This consultation ran from 29 June to 20 July 2021.

Ealing Council has developed a number of measures to improve the area around Ealing Fields High School. This included enhancing the road safety for students attending the school, increasing pedestrian and cycling facilities, as well as improving bus stop accessibility to encourage the use of more sustainable travel modes.

Taking into account the feedback received from the consultation, design changes were incorporated as far as practicable. Some of the key changes included were as follows:

  • A new mini roundabout at Little Ealing Lane/ Windmill Road/ Northfield Avenue junction. This as a result of local resident suggestions followed by a traffic modelling exercise, which has proven that the junction currently works at capacity (especially the Windmill Road arm) and the mini roundabout option would improve the junction operation and reduce delays. Additional elements incorporated into the design include parallel crossings for cyclists and new deflections to reduce vehicular speed to address comments received from Ealing Cycle Campaign
  • Northbound Bus stop on Windmill Road retained at its current location as a result of residents objection to its relocation and further consultation with London Buses.

What happens next?

The results of the consultation have been shared with ward councillors for their consideration. Taking into account funding limitations, the recommendation has been made to build a new mini roundabout as part of phase 1 of the implementation. The roundabout will involve the Little Ealing Lane, Windmill Road and Northfield Avenue junction.  Works on site are expected to start in February/March 2023.

In August 2022 the council also carried out a statutory consultation on implementation. Taking into account the feedback received, highways officers are finalising detailed design plans which will be published on this website prior to start of the works.

Other elements of the scheme will be built in subsequent phases subject to funding availability.
