Ealing Council’s transport strategy and the need for change

Ealing Council's Transport Strategy supports the variance in price of resident parking permits, based on the emissions of the vehicles to which it is issued. To determine the price of the permit, the council looks at the type of fuel a vehicle uses and its CO2 emissions, alongside other factors such as the number of cars in a household and the number of controlled hours in the Controlled Parking Zone.

Vehicular emissions cause much of the pollution which affects the quality of the air we breathe and are a major cause of respiratory health conditions, such as asthma. Researchers at Kings College London estimate that poor air quality caused by harmful emissions, is linked to over 9,000 premature deaths across London each year, of which an estimated 387 are in Ealing. The negative impact of emissions on air quality have also been highlighted by the Royal College of Physicians.

We want to encourage residents to use vehicles which are less damaging to the environment and our health.
