Site related to: Rathgar Avenue

-
conflict with a dropped kerb
Response from council: hold installation pending further investigation
-
the charge point installation will not impact the proposed dropped kerb
Date received: 9 December 2024
Issue raised through Traffic Management Order:
-
the perceived current and future lack of utilisation.
Response from council: hold installation pending further investigation
-
electric vehicle ownership is growing steadily across the borough, and there is an upcoming ban on new petrol and diesel cars. Together, these factors demonstrate the importance of installing new charge points now. The borough aims to support drivers wanting to transition and those that need to in the future. Acting now ensures a smoother transition and prevents future pressure on infrastructure.

Issue raised through Traffic Management Order:
-
concerns about fire safety of the charge points
Response from council: Proceed to installation
-
issues of safety were raised in a small number of responses. A report from the government’s Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) T0194 – Covered car parks - fire safety guidance for electric vehicles stated that “most available empirical evidence to date suggests that fires in EVs are less likely to occur than in hybrid vehicles and petrol or diesel vehicles”.
-
our charge point operator Believ conducts regular maintenance and ensures that all the electric charging equipment is safe and ready to use.
Site related to: Northfield Avenue
Date received: 18 December 2024
Issue raised through Traffic Management Order:
-
The objection related to the charge point being installed on a key route for the cycle network.
Response from council: Proceed to installation
-
this location previously was consulted on as part of the council’s batch 4 sites in April 2024. In which the council’s response was as follows:
-
we acknowledge the concerns that have been raised regarding this location and our cycle network plan. The plan aims to show our overall ambition for the cycle network in Ealing, of which a small number of strategic routes are proposed to be segregated, while a larger number of local connecting routes are improved with signage and other measures. While Northfield Avenue is included on the plan, it is not designated as a strategic route, and there are no proposals for segregation. Nevertheless, the council recognises that Blondin Road and Bramley Avenue also feature in the cycle network and may necessitate a cycle/pedestrian crossing in the future
-
we therefore intend to relocate the Electric Vehicle (EV) charge points on Northfield Avenue further south, to mitigate any potential interference with a prospective crossing between Blondin Road and Bramley Avenue. The proposed new location remains situated on Northfield Avenue, positioned between the junctions of Wellington Road and Bramley Avenue. The council will look to readvertise the traffic management order in the revised location. The other proposed site on Northfield Avenue will proceed to installation
-
the council responded to the initial objection and relocated the charge point, which allows for a future cycle crossing but does not interfere with the planned cycle network or any cycle segregation
