High hedges

Make a complaint about a high hedge

Read the guidance on how the council will deal with a complaint about a high hedge on the GOV.UK website.

The application form includes details of fees, where to send the form and the complaint process. Once an application is accepted the fee cannot be refunded or claimed back from the hedge owner.

Either party has the right to appeal against a decision.

What the council will do

Once a complaint has been received and considered as to whether it meets legal tests, we will contact you in writing to explain the process.

We will publish details of the necessary action in a formal remedial notice. This can include measures to be taken, a specified time for the work, or preventative action to ensure that there is no recurrence of the adverse effect.

While the remedial notice has effect, it will be a local land charge and will be binding on each owner or occupier of the land specified in the notice.

A remedial notice can be amended or withdrawn, or the council can waive or relax a requirement of the notice.
