Homes for Ukraine scheme

The Homes for Ukraine Scheme was launched on 14 March 2022 by the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

This scheme is open to Ukrainian nationals who lived in Ukraine before 1 January 2022, and to their immediate family members (for example spouse, partner and children under 18) who may be other nationalities. The scheme allows them to be sponsored to come to the UK. Applicants must be outside of the UK to apply.

Sponsors can live anywhere in the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and can be of any nationality, provided they are a British or Irish Citizen or settled in the UK (which means having the right to live in the UK permanently) on the date of the guest’s visa application.

When a visa is granted, Ukrainians will have 18 months leave to remain in the UK. During this period, the council has a duty to support new arrivals with settling into the community.

Want to help?

We are always amazed by the strength and support shown to those effected by any crisis. Residents can get involved to help Ukrainian nationals in Ealing and beyond by:

  • donating: Ukrainian churches and community organisations have united to work with charities to provide medicines, food, and critical services to those affected and most vulnerable. You can support them by donating through the fundraising page on GoFundMe. The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), a coalition of 15 leading UK charities, has a fundraising appeal to provide aid to Ukrainians
  • becoming a sponsor: You can register to become a sponsor if you are eligible. You will need to find someone to sponsor (this can be an individual or a family group, if you have enough space to accommodate them). More information on becoming a sponsor on GOV.UK. There are organisations that can help you find people to sponsor. See the list of recognised providers on GOV.UK
  • providing practical help: See some examples on the Ukrainian refugee help website on how you can support newly arrived Ukrainians to rebuild their lives in the community such as offering employment, donating laptops
