Apply for an in year high school place

Applying for an in year high school place

If your child needs to change school or you have moved and do not have a school place, you will need to apply for an in-year high school transfer.

If you get a school offer, your child must start within 20 school days, or the offer may be taken back.

Before you apply

Check the year group table to find the right year group and the latest available high school vacancies

Read the admissions criteria for the schools you wish to apply for.

Year 10 and year 11

Transferring schools is not recommended for students already in year 10 or year 11.

There is no guarantee that their course options and exam board can be matched between the schools, and could seriously affect their final GCSE grades.

If your year 11 child is not in school, you need to complete both the In-year high school application form and the Year 11 information form to make sure that they can be placed in full time education. Not providing this will delay your application.

How to apply

Start your in-year high school application

If you want to join one of the schools below during the school year, you will need to contact the school instead of the council.

Deadlines

School places are offered weekly during term time.

Applications made by 4pm on a Friday will be considered the following week. You will get an email within 10 school days confirming the outcome.

The admissions team cannot give you any updates until they make a final decision.

Children of sixth form or college age

If your child was born before 1 September 2008, you cannot apply through the council.
