Introduction
Sherwood Close estate, also known as Dean Gardens, is in West Ealing and is in the Walpole ward. The estate was built in the 1970s and consisted of 209 homes.
The council's 2008 estates review revealed that Sherwood Close needed significant upgrades to meet the government's Decent Homes standard.
The review identified several issues, including:
- anti-social behaviour
- abandoned garages
- drug dealing and other criminal activity
- overcrowding, with an excess of one-bedroom properties and a shortage of larger properties, especially four-bedroom homes
- poorly lit internal corridors
Following a developer selection process in September 2012 Cabinet approved Affinity Sutton as the preferred developer partner for the regeneration of the estate. The redevelopment is partially complete.
Affinity Sutton then started a consultation process with estate residents and the local community which resulted into a detailed planning application for the estate redevelopment which was approved in August 2014.
In November 2016, Affinity Sutton merged with Circle Housing to form Clarion Housing Group.
