Approvals

Approved establishments

If your food business makes, prepares, or handles products of animal origin (POAO) and supplies these products to other businesses, you may require approval.

If your food business supplies POAO direct to the final consumer only, with no business-to-business sales, approval will not be required. There are also multiple exemptions to approvals such as satellite operations and marginal, localised and restricted exemptions.

Approved premises must maintain a high standard of food safety and hygiene and be fully compliant with all applicable food laws. Businesses requiring approval will need to fully comply with the Retained EU Regulation (EC) No 853/2004 Hygiene Rules for Food of Animal Origin, in addition to the Retained EU Regulation (EC) No 852/2004 Hygiene of Foodstuffs. Businesses will also need to comply with all other relevant traceability, sampling, product labelling and allergen legislation requirements.

If your business requires approval, you must be granted approval by Ealing Council before the business can start trading. Approval must be granted (either fully or conditionally) from Ealing Council before any food can be sold.

Premises that are approved by the local authority must display an oval identification mark on their products.
