Free school meal form for families with no recourse to public funds

Complete this form if you are a family with no recourse to public funds (NRPF) and would like to apply for free school meals.

Before you start

Do not complete this form if you are receiving state benefits.

Only complete this form if your child attends a school in Ealing borough and you have no recourse for public funds. 

To qualify for free school meals when you have NRPF, your families’ yearly household income must be no higher than:

  • £31,200 for families within London with one child
  • £34,800 for families within London with two or more children

Household income includes any income or support you may be getting in addition to any earnings from employment for you and your partner.

You will need

  • Proof of income, for example:
    • bank statements
    • payslips
    • letter from your employer
  • Proof of no recourse to public funds status, some examples:
    • Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR)
      a letter from the Home Office granting them leave to remain in the UK and a biometric residence card.
    • British National (Overseas) passport holders
      a current BN(O) passport, visa, proof of entry clearance, 2 latest bank statements and payslips for you and your partner.
    • Section 4 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
      a letter from the Home Office or local authority confirming Section 4 support and a Biometric Card.
    • Spouse or work visa holders
      the valid visa, 2 latest bank statements and payslips for you and your partner.
    • Student visa holders
      enrolment a letter from the college or university confirming placement, the valid visa, 2 latest bank statements and payslips for you and your partner.
    • Zambrano or Chen carers may be able to show a derivative residence card. If they do not hold this, they must be able to show that:
      • the carer or parent is not a British citizen
      • the child is a British citizen
      • the carer is a direct relative or legal guardian of the child, and they have the primary responsibility for the child
      • there are no other members of the carers’ family in the UK or the European Economic Area (EEA) who could look after the child

Uploading supporting documents

You will be asked to upload some documents. For example, proof of visa and income. All evidence must be less than 3 months old.

  • accepted file types: Word (doc, docx), Acrobat (pdf), OpenDocument text (odt) Plain text (txt, rtf) 
  • we also accept photos taken on phones and tablets and the following image file types: bmp, gif, jpeg, png  
  • Zip and Excel (xls) files cannot be uploaded 

What happens next

We will contact you by email or phone to let you know if you qualify for free school meals. We aim to give you an answer within 20 working days. 

If you do qualify, we will let your child’s school know that they are entitled to benefit-related free school meals.

This form should take about 10 minutes to complete.
