Statement from Peter Mason, leader of Ealing Council

I share the shock and anger I know people are feeling following the tragic incident that has occurred on Cayton Road.

Our thoughts are with everyone who knew the victim of this terrible crime, Mr Thomas O'Halloran, who was well known in the area.

Ealing Council is working closely with the police to provide any support we can and we were able to help identify a suspect using our CCTV network. I am pleased to see that the police have now arrested the suspect.

Please be mindful that this remains an ongoing investigation, and I urge people to contact the police if they have any information or footage that might be useful. You can contact the police about this specific incident by calling 020 8358 0300 quoting 4691/16AUG.

Alternatively you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
