This consultation has been extended to Friday 29 November 2024
***Additional note added on 8 November 2024***
We would like to clarify the impact on parking spaces. The following summary outlines the specific changes:
Between Ruislip Road and Woodstock Avenue:
- East side: 14 parking bays, including 4 EV bays, will be replaced by a cycle facility
- West side: 6 unmarked spaces will be converted to a single yellow line and bus lane, parking will be available outside of restricted hours
Between Woodstock Avenue and Kenilworth Gardens Zebra:
- East side: 10 parking bays will be replaced by a cycle facility
- West side: 6 parking bays will be converted to a single yellow line and bus lane
Between Neal Avenue and Balmoral:
- East side: 1 disabled bay and 10 parking bays will be replaced by a cycle facility
- West side: 2 unmarked spaces will be converted to a single yellow line and bus lane, parking will be available outside of restricted hours.
We want to emphasise that the accompanying drawing provided a high-level overview of the proposed changes. Before any formal changes are implemented, a detailed design process will be undertaken, followed by a statutory consultation to allow for public input and feedback.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this inaccuracy and thank you for your understanding, thus we will be extending the consultation until Friday 29 November 2024.
This consultation will be open between 14 October and 8 November 2024.
What we are proposing
We want to make travelling by public transport easier and more efficient by improving bus journey times and making the roads safer for pedestrians and cyclists. Transport for London (TfL) identified several roads in Ealing which had capacity to improve bus journey times, in line with TfL’s target of 25km of new bus lanes by 2025.
Lady Margaret Road has been identified as a road that could accommodate and benefit from the introduction of a bus lane. In partnership with TFL, we are proposing:
- a new northbound bus lane, which runs from Balmoral Drive to Ruislip Road operating between 7am and 7pm
- a new two-way protected cycle lane, which runs from Ruislip Road to Hillside Road on the eastern side of the road
- upgrading zebra crossings to parallel crossings
- a small sections of shared footway to allow cyclists to enter the cycle lane
What impact will the proposals have?
To make space for the above proposals, we will need to remove some of the existing pay-by-phone parking spaces, and relocate one disabled space on the eastern side of Lady Margaret Road (see below for details).
Residential parking spaces will not be affected, and all existing parking bays directly outside shops on Lady Margaret Road will be maintained, ensuring all current parking and loading arrangements at these shops can continue.
Existing parking spaces to be removed to make space for new bus and cycle lane:
- 12 parking spaces and 4 electric vehicle spaces between the Esso petrol station and Greenford High School. Parking on the roads providing access to Freshwater Court will not be affected; the electric vehicle spaces will be relocated during the detailed design
- 10 parking spaces between Greenford High School and Neal Avenue - parking on the adjacent service road, directly outside properties numbers 522 to 484, will not be affected
- 10 parking spaces between Neal Avenue and Hillside Road and one disabled space which will be relocated - parking on the adjacent service road, directly outside properties numbers 480 to 460, will not be affected.
What are the benefits of the proposals?
- the introduction of the northbound bus lane would reduce bus journey times by allowing buses to bypass traffic congestion during peak times
- improved and safer cycle facilities
- the proposals are in line with the Mayor of London and Ealing Council transport strategies to encourage sustainable travel (walking, cycling and public transport)
Your views
Please look through the detailed proposals and have your say by completing the online survey.
This consultation will be open between 14 October and 8 November 2024.
The responses to this consultation will be analysed and reported to your ward councillors and the cabinet member for climate action who will decide whether to implement the scheme. If the scheme is approved, the design may be amended based on feedback received during this consultation. The results of this consultation will be published on our website by December 2024.
