Controlled Parking Zone extended operating times

This consultation has now ended.

This consultation closes on Wednesday 11 December 2024.

What are we proposing and why?

To make sure Controlled Parking Zones (CPZs) are effective at prioritising resident parking and to encourage more people to travel actively and sustainably, Ealing Council is proposing to extend the operating times – and is seeking your views.

CPZs that operate for 1 hour in the morning and in the afternoon were put in place to prevent all-day parking by non-residents. However, the short times are difficult to enforce effectively, and recent parking pressure surveys show that there is still significant parking pressure on many of the roads in these CPZ areas.

Data also shows that over 30% of car journeys within the borough cover less than 2km which, made easier by non-controlled parking zones, goes against the council’s Climate and Ecological Emergency Strategy to make Ealing carbon neutral by 2030. Rethinking parking and promoting active and sustainable travel will:

  • improve health through more physical activity
  • reduce road congestion and relieve parking pressure
  • improve air pollution and health by reducing pollutants from road transport
  • tackle the climate emergency by reducing carbon emissions

What happens next

The council is required to carry out a 21-day statutory consultation. This involves placing notices on lampposts in the proposed area and publishing the notice in the Ealing Gazette. The results of the consultation will be available at www.ealing.gov.uk/consultations in the new year. All comments and objections will be considered and addressed before any decision is made to proceed to implementation.
