The consultation
Ealing Council has recently adopted its climate and ecological emergency strategy, aiming for the borough to be net carbon zero by 2030. As part of our ambition to achieve this, we plan to install a boroughwide electric vehicle charging point (EVCP) network on-street to be managed by Liberty charging.
The number of electric vehicles (EVs) in the borough is growing rapidly but for many people, a key concern with owning an electric vehicle is not having easy access to a charge point. The council proposes improvements by installing new fast charge points with dedicated parking spaces in your local area helping residents with EVs to charge conveniently.
Only EVs plugged in and ‘actively charging’ would be allowed to use these spaces. This will ensure the EVCPs are available for users, not blocked by other parked vehicles. If you own an electric vehicle, you’ll now have more chance of ensuring there is somewhere to charge your car. There would be a maximum of two dedicated parking spaces for each charging point to be converted for charging electric vehicles, so we expect there to be little impact on parking. The locations for proposed EVCPs have been selected in neighbourhoods where most residents have to park on-street and where there have been resident requests. All selected locations have to satisfy comprehensive electrical safety and road safety standards plus other legal requirements.
