This consultation has now ended.
The consultation
Ealing Council has recently adopted its climate and ecological emergency strategy, aiming for the borough to be net carbon zero by 2030. As part of our ambition to achieve this, we are committed to rolling out a network of on-street EVCPs across the borough to expand the council's existing network.
The number of Electric Vehicles (EVs) in the borough is growing rapidly but for many people, a key concern with owning an electric vehicle is not having easy access to a charge point. Ealing’s EVCP network continues to grow, and the council is proposing to further improve accessibility by installing new lamp column charge points in your area to help residents with EVs to charge conveniently.
The locations for proposed EVCPs have been selected in neighbourhoods where most residents need to park on street (i.e. no off street parking) and where there have been multiple requests for EVCPs from residents. All selected locations must satisfy comprehensive electrical safety and road safety standards plus other legal requirements. The proposed EVCP in this location will have signs informing drivers of the facility. If the location is within a controlled parking zone, a parking permit for the relevant zone will also be required. Some sites also have one dedicated parking space for each lamp column to be retrofitted for charging electric vehicles. This is to ensure that the EVCPs are available for those that need to charge their vehicle and are not blocked by other parked vehicles. Only EVs plugged in and ‘actively charging’ would be allowed to use these spaces.
The proposals have been designed to provide EVCPs whilst minimising impact on available parking for residents.
Your view
We would like to know your views on these proposals. Please view the plans for each proposed lamp column charge point before completing a short survey to have your say.
This consultation will be live until 14 February 2022.
What happens next?
After the consultation ends we will review all the feedback from residents and use this to inform our decision on whether or not to proceed. Prior to any work starting a statutory traffic management order (TMO) consultation will be carried out, which will involve advertising the changes in local newspapers.
