Independently run pubs and bars can get a business rate discount for the 2020/21 financial year.
The discount is £1,000 and applies from 1 April 2020 until 31 March 2021. Public houses and bars with a rateable value between £51,000 and £100,000 qualify for this relief.
Qualifying pubs and bars should:
- Be open to the public
- Allow free entry except for occasional entertainment
- Allow drinking without the need to buy food
- Allow drinks to be bought at a bar.
State aid limits apply. The relief will not be payable if a business has received, or will receive, more than €200,000 in the past three years.
How to apply
This relief will normally be awarded automatically to qualifying properties that meet the criteria. If you think you are eligible but the relief is not on your 2020/21 bill, please email businessratesteam@ealing.gov.uk.
