Fly-tipping

Fly-tipping is the deliberate dumping of rubbish in a place where it should not be left.

A fly-tip can be a single bag of rubbish, mattress or large amounts of builders' rubble. We:

  • remove waste dumped on land owned or managed by the council
  • do not remove waste from private property

Fly-tipping is illegal and we will take action against anyone we catch dumping rubbish.

Greener Ealing Ltd, our rubbish and recycling contractor, works hard to collect as many fly-tips as possible, as quickly as it can. Currently, 98% of reported fly-tips are collected within 2 working days.

To identify fly-tippers and issue fines, Greener Ealing use evidence found in the dumped waste itself, CCTV footage, and reports from witnesses.

Penalties and fines for fly-tippers

Fly-tipping is a criminal offence.

We will fine or prosecute people who dump rubbish in the street. It carries a maximum penalty of an unlimited fine or up to 5 years in prison.

We can issue fixed penalty notices (FPN) of £1,000.

It is also an offence to allow fly-tipping on your land or land that you rent.
