5 Ways to wellbeing Grant webinar

The following content appeared on the slides presented at the webinars that took place on 6 and 15 February.

Your 5 ways to wellbeing

We are encouraged to eat at least five fruit and vegetables a day to take care of our physical health, but what about our mental health?

Research carried out by the New Economics Foundation found that there are five ways to wellbeing. They are:

  • Connect
  • be active
  • take notice
  • Keep learning
  • Give

Think about

  • What do each of these terms mean to your community and what language best describes them.
  • For your community, how are you going to work with your community to create this aspect.

Aims

  • To collaborate with our existing connections in the voluntary, community and faith  sector in creating culturally competent campaign resources on the 5 ways to wellbeing for Ealing residents.
  • The resources will be used by local community members to promote “wider conversations on mental health and suicide prevention” with members of their community to reduce the stigma and embarrassment associated with poor mental well-being and promote healthy conversations.
  • To gain a further understanding of the complex situations faced by communities and groups and barriers to accessing services and support needed.

Hints and tips

  • Engagement workshops – this project is about working with local community members and ensuring that their voices are represented through the resources that are created.
  • Aims of engagement - what will be the purpose and structure of these.
  • Why do you think this project is needed for your community group – anecdotal evidence/insights.
  • Really think about who your target audience is and why.
  • Think about the geographical reach of your project.
  • How will your organisation ensure sustainability.
  • Resources – really think about the type of resources that you intend to create for the modern audience – videos, languages, especially focussing on the how to which needs to be example of things that your community would do.

Remember

  1. Don't over think it
  2. Keep it simple
  3. Be clear about your target audience
  4. Come back and ask questions
