New to cycling on roads
London Cycling Campaign have some tips for new or returning cyclists who are looking to get on their bike.
It is important that when out cycling you cycle safely and confidently by:
- Looking, signalling and manoeuvring.
- Eye contact - look at pedestrians, drivers and other cyclists in the eye.
- Keep away from the kerb - cycle at least 1 metre away from the kerb and parked cars.
- Take the lane. This is the 'primary position' in the centre of the lane.

Planning your cycle route
- Use the London Cycling Campaign’s route planner to help you plan your journey
- Google Maps: Select the cycling layer which shows cycling trails, dedicated lanes and bike friendly roads. It is available online and as a Smartphone app
- CycleStreets: Ealing's area on CycleStreets allows you to plan a journey. The Photomap offers photos of cycling infrastructure throughout your route
