Concessionary travel for older people

For those aged 60 or over you may be eligible for one or more travel schemes for disabled and elderly people.

  • older peron freedom pass is available to all London residents over the age of 66. You can travel free or get discounts on a range of transport services across London including free free on bus, tram, Tube, DLR, London Overground and Elizabeth line
  • hopper fare gives you unlimited journeys for a set fee, made within 1 hour of touching in. Hopper fare also applies to discounted rate travel
  • senior railcard get a third discount on off-peak pay as you go travel
  • bus and tram discount if you are claiming certain benefits you can get 50% off adult pay as you go and 7 day of monthly fares.
  • disabled person freedom pass is available to London residents with eligible disabilities
  • taxicard scheme if you have a disability that makes it difficult for you to use buses and trains
  • motability scheme allows disabled people to use their government funded mobility allowance to lease a new car, scooter or powered wheelchair

Walking and cycling are also great options on shorter journeys for those who are able to.

TfL maps shows how long it takes to walk between Tube stations, and TfL's expanded cycle hire scheme now also has 500 e-bikes for hire across 800 docking stations.

Support on public transport

Transport for London's free travel mentoring service supports disabled people to travel independently on public transport.

Hubs Mobility Advice Service offer free impartial advice on accessible travel options including buses, coaches, rail, air travel and community transport.

Proof of disability

To have rights under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, you need to show you meet the definition of disability.
