Broadmead Road and Ruislip Road junction proposal for improvements

Background

Ealing Council is seeking your views on proposals to improve the junction at Broadmead Road and Ruislip Road.

Improving the junction at Broadmead Road and Ruislip Road will make it easier and safer to walk and cycle, encouraging more people to get active. This is in line with the transport strategies of the Mayor of London and Ealing Council. The reliability of bus journeys through the junction at peak times would also be improved.

Proposals

  • widen a section of Ruislip Road (between Rectory Park Avenue and Brunel Close) to create a new bus lane
  • relocate the existing bus stop on Ruislip Road (situated to the east of Broadmead Road) to align with the proposed new bus lane
  • introduce a new toucan (cycling and pedestrian) crossing on Ruislip Road (located to the east of Broadmead Road) to allow the pavement to be widened [subject to land transfer]
  • realign the existing pedestrian crossing to create a toucan (cycling and pedestrian) crossing on Broadmead Road to make it easier for people to cross
  • replace the existing left-turn lane on Broadmead Road and change the existing right-turn lane to a left-turn lane to enable greenery to be planted

What are the benefits of the proposals?

  • the introduction of the continuous eastbound bus lane on Ruislip Road would improve bus journey times, particularly at peak times
  • the realignment of the existing signalised pedestrian crossings and the introduction of a new signalised pedestrian crossing will enable safer crossing for all pedestrians

What impact will the proposals have?

For most residents and businesses, the impact of the proposed improvements should be minimal.
