Local heritage register
The local heritage register is a record of locally listed buildings, also known as non-designated heritage assets, within the borough. It includes information about historic buildings, sites, and areas that have local significance, architectural value or historic interest.
The register provides a clear framework for managing change to our historic environment by working with communities to identify heritage assets that contribute to the borough’s distinctive character. It also explains the location of these assets and highlights the features that make them significant.
In addition, the register includes a list of buildings of façade or group value, which aims to preserve the uniformity of building façades and maintain important historic relationships between groups of buildings. This approach supports the successful management of change while protecting our unique architectural heritage.
Entries on the register are not afforded the same protection as national listing, however, it is a material consideration the council must have due regard to in the determination of planning applications.
