Ealing Sport and Physical Activity Strategy 2013 - 2018

The Sport and Physical Activity Strategy, developed by Ealing Council’s Active Ealing and public health teams, aims to improve the quality of life for people living, going to school or working in Ealing by increasing opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to take part in both informal and formal sport and physical activity in a range of places across the borough. The strategy will ensure existing and new service delivery will address the specific health needs of Ealing residents and have a positive impact on the health of individuals and communities.

The strategy will provide a step change in the council’s management and planning for health related physical activity interventions and will provide a platform to engage and enable other partners to assist with this aim.  The strategy provides a key evidence base supporting the council’s emerging Health and Wellbeing Strategy and Joint Strategic Needs Assessment for Physical Activity and provides a key evidence base, endorsed by Sport England for underpinning external funding applications for health, sport and physical activity related projects.

The key aims for this strategy are to:

  • promote physical activity as part of everyday life
  • create the environment for key organisations to work effectively together to build a healthier borough with a reduced incidence of disease
  • promote the benefits of a health active lifestyle to all sections of the community
  • enable and support health, independence and well-being
  • offer sustainable and affordable access to quality, cost effective sport and physical activity services
  • proactively tackle health inequalities
  • bring additional resources into the borough to drive an increase in sport and physical activity participation
  • promote opportunities for stakeholders and partners to develop and deliver the strategy
