About the park
Pear Tree Park is a welcoming green space in Perivale, offering a mix of open meadows, shaded pathways, and recreational areas. It provides a peaceful retreat for visitors, with opportunities for walking, exercise, and community activities. The park is home to a variety of native trees and plants, enhancing local biodiversity and providing a habitat for wildlife.
With picnic and seating areas, it’s an ideal spot for relaxation and social gatherings. Pear Tree Park is a valued space for the local community, supporting both leisure and wellbeing.
History
Pear Tree Park was officially opened in July 2024. The park spans approximately 49 acres, equivalent to about 30 football pitches, and was developed on the site of a former 9-hole golf course adjacent to Perivale Park. The transformation of this space into a public park is part of Ealing Council's initiative to create 10 new parks in the borough and contributes to the vision of establishing a regional park that connects various green spaces across the area.
The name "Pear Tree Park" was inspired by the historical roots of Perivale. In 1508, the area was referred to as "Pyryvale," a combination of "perie" (meaning pear tree) and "vale." This etymology reflects the area's past association with pear trees. To honour this heritage, the park will eventually include a small pear orchard.
The establishment of Pear Tree Park not only provides a valuable recreational space for the community but also serves as a significant step toward creating a connected network of green spaces within the borough, promoting environmental sustainability and community wellbeing.
Wildlife value
Pear Tree Park is an important green space for local biodiversity, providing a habitat for a variety of wildlife. The park features a mix of wildflower meadows, native trees, and planned wetlands, which support pollinators such as bees and butterflies, as well as a range of bird species. The inclusion of a small pear orchard will further enhance the ecological value, attracting insects and small mammals.
The park's rewilding efforts, including the planting of native shrubs and the creation of natural grasslands, contribute to improved biodiversity and climate resilience. Future plans include the introduction of wetlands, which will help manage flood risk while offering a vital refuge for amphibians, insects, and waterfowl.
Visitors to Pear Tree Park may spot species such as robins, blackbirds, and woodpeckers in the tree canopy, while foxes and hedgehogs are known to roam the wider area at dusk. The park plays a crucial role in maintaining urban wildlife corridors, connecting to other green spaces within Ealing’s expanding regional park network.
