Tell us about a change of address or register for council tax

If you are the person who must pay council tax, please tell us straight away if you are moving to a new home. 

By law, you must let us know within 21 days so we can send the right bill.

Register for council tax if you are moving into the borough

If you are moving into the borough of Ealing from another borough, you need to register for council tax.

Tell us as soon as you move so you have more time to pay. We will start charging you from the day you move into your new home.

You will also need to let your old council know you have moved to they can stop charging you.

Moving within or leaving the borough

If you were already paid council tax at your old address and are moving to a new place in the borough of Ealing, you will need to register for council tax at your new home and close your old account. 

We will send you two bills: one for your old home and one for your new one. If you paid too much, we will move that money to your new account. 

Moving out of the borough

Tell us if you are moving out of the borough. 

We will:  

  • work out your final bill up to the day you sell your property or your tenancy ends 
  • ask you to confirm if your property is furnished or unfurnished while it is empty
