Ealing Council provides a range of housing and support options to help you maintain your independence as you get older.
Below is some information on the options available regarding accommodation and related services for older residents, to help you make the choices that best suit you.
Many older people would prefer to stay in their own home rather than move. There are services that can provide practical help to make you more comfortable.
Equipment and adaptations
If you have mobility difficulties around your home you might benefit from equipment and/or adaptations. Ealing Council supports residents with disabilities and has occupational therapists who can assess your needs. They provide services to promote your independence and enable you (and your carer) to improve your ability to manage your daily life.

The handyperson service, run by the council's home improvement agency, arranges minor jobs in the home for older, disabled or otherwise vulnerable people.
Careline – emergency alarm network
Ealing Careline is an alarm network for older people (and younger people with disabilities). It is an alarm system that operates from your home by pressing a button. There is a modest quarterly fee.
Moving to alternative accommodation
There are a number of reasons why you may have started thinking about moving. It may be that your home is too large for you and you want to move somewhere smaller where support is available when you need it.
Sheltered housing is intended to meet the needs of older people who would like to continue to live independently, but would benefit from additional support. It is a group development of purpose built accommodation specially designed for older people.
You usually need to be over 60 years old to qualify for sheltered housing.
Help with moving – Under occupation scheme
The scheme is available to help secure tenants living in a property with more than two bedrooms who would like to move to a smaller property and be rewarded.
