Carers strategy

Our all-age Carers Strategy 2024-2029 has been developed in partnership with health, social care, voluntary sector partners and carers. We listened to young carers, adult carers, and parent carers, who shared what matters most to them and what their priorities are.

The strategy focuses on what matters most to carers. It explains how we will take action to meet their priorities:

  • identifying carers of all ages at an early stage in their caring journey
  • enabling carers to have a family and community life alongside caring
  • supporting carers to maintain their physical and mental wellbeing
  • supporting carers of all ages to maximise their income and realise their potential

Many of us will be carers at some point in our lives. Sometimes caring starts suddenly, or it can build up over time. While caring can be rewarding, it can also be tough, and many carers put their own needs aside to support someone else.

This strategy recognises the vital role carers play and outlines how we will respond to what matters most to them. By working together, we want all organisations to ‘think Carer’, create carer-friendly spaces, and tackle the unfair challenges carers face.
