What is Shared Lives?
Our carers support adults to develop their independence, achieve their dreams and goals and to participate in the local community. Shared Lives is a form of support that helps people to live life to the full in their communities, without having to live alone or in a care home.
Adults who need support or care are matched with a compatible Shared Lives carer who agrees to share their home and their family (or community) life with that person. They will either move into their own room in the household or use the home as a base. This can be longer term (many arrangements have lasted as long as 20 years), or short term, providing holidays or offering regular breaks for unpaid family carers. Shared Lives can also be used to provide daytime support.
Ealing Shared Lives recruit and train carers who live in the borough; each are unique with a wide range of skills and experience. However, the one thing they all have in common is their dedication and a desire to make a difference.
Shared Lives carers are not there to do everything for you, they are there to help you become as independent as possible, they will work with you until you are happy to do things on your own.
Shared Lives promotes a way for you to live with someone that can support you, help you learn new skills and do things you both enjoy.
