Emergency duty team

The social care emergency duty team (EDT) responds to out of hours referrals where intervention from the council is required to protect a vulnerable child or adult, and where it would not be safe, appropriate or lawful to delay that intervention to the next working day. All referrals are dealt with by a fully qualified and experienced social worker.

You can contact the emergency duty team to:

  • Make a safeguarding alert
  • Request a social care assessment/ review where the situation cannot wait until the next working day
  • Activate a carers emergency support plan where an urgent situation means they will not be able to provide the care they usually do and they have a carer’s emergency card

Operating hours

The emergency duty team operates at the following times:

  • Monday to Friday: 5pm - 9am the following day
  • Weekend: 5pm Friday to 9am Monday
  • Bank holidays and public holidays: 24 hour cover
