Mayor of London and London Assembly Elections

On 2 May 2024, people from across London will be given the chance to vote for the Mayor of London, the 25 members of the London Assembly and a London Assembly member for the Ealing and Hillingdon constituency.

The people you vote for in these elections are responsible for many aspects of your everyday life – transport, housing, planning, policing and the environment.

To vote in these elections you must:

  • be registered to vote (registration deadline is Tuesday 16 April 2024)
  • live in London
  • be 18 or over on the day of the elections (polling day)
  • be a British, Irish, EU or Commonwealth citizen

British citizens living overseas cannot vote in the Mayor of London and London Assembly elections.

Register to vote

If you are not registered to vote, you can register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
You will need your national insurance number to complete the application. If you do not have a national insurance number, you may still be able to register by supplying proof of identity.

The deadline to receive completed registrations is Tuesday 16 April 2024.

Voting by post or proxy

If you are unable to vote in person at your local polling station on election day you can apply for a postal or proxy vote.
The deadline to apply for a postal vote, or to amend or cancel an existing postal or proxy vote, is 5pm on Wednesday 17 April 2024. 
The deadline to apply for a new proxy vote, where a voter nominates a registered eligible person to cast a vote on their behalf, is 5pm on Wednesday 24 April 2024.

Voter photo ID needed in polling stations

You now need to show photo ID to vote in person at polling stations. 
If you do not have accepted photo ID, you can apply for a free voter photo ID document, called a 'Voter Authority Certificate'.

The deadline to receive completed applications for Voter Authority Certificates is Wednesday 24 April 2024.
