Voting if you live overseas

If you are British and used to live or vote in the borough, you might be able to sign up to vote in UK Parliamentary elections, even if you now live in another country.

Who can register?

You can register to vote if: 

  • you used to live in the borough but were not registered to vote, if you can provide evidence showing you were resident at that address
  • you were registered to vote in the borough

Make sure you choose the correct application type for your situation. Incorrect applications may be rejected. 

Overseas declaration validity

Your declaration is valid for 3 years, expiring on 1 November in the third year after it takes effect.

Example: If your declaration takes effect on 1 March 2024, it will expire on 1 November 2026.

How to apply as an overseas elector

If your last UK address was in the borough of Ealing, you can apply to register to vote in UK Parliamentary elections by completing an application.

How you can vote

You can vote in one of the following ways:

  • by post
  • by proxy  (someone who is registered and you trust votes for you)
  • in person (only if you will be in the UK on polling day)

You cannot vote in person at a British embassy, high commission, or consulate.

To vote by post or proxy, you must complete a separate application as well as your overseas voter registration.
