The type of personal information we collect
We currently collect and process the following information:
- email address
- mobile phone
- landline phone
However a user would only be required one of these, depending on the method of communication they wish to receive information via.
How we get the personal information and why we have it
Most of the personal information we process is provided to us directly by you for personal information which is collected for users signing up to the Air pollution alerts service.
We use the information that you have given us in order to send notifications for our Air pollution alerts service. Users can sign up to receive air pollution forecasts or elevated pollution notifications via Email, SMS or Voice.
Mobile telephone and landline telephone numbers are shared with our telecommunications provider, Twilio, for the purposes of sending SMS/Voice messages to users signed up the Air pollution alerts service. We may share this information with Twilio.
Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the lawful bases we rely on for processing this information is consent – Article 6 -(a) Your consent.
You are able to remove your consent at any time. You can do this by contacting emailing Pollution-Technical@ealing.gov.uk
How we store your personal information
Your information is securely stored.
Personal information collected will be retained for the duration that the Air pollution notification service remains operational.
All data will be held in a secure, encrypted database environment.
Upon request for deletion of personal information, or upon conclusion of the Air pollution notification service (whichever comes first) all corresponding database entries will be permanently removed.
For the purpose of facilitating disaster recovery, we maintain backups for a period of 14 days. Following this 14-day period, all data contained within these backups is permanently deleted and becomes unretrievable.
Your data protection rights
Under data protection law, you have rights including your right:
- of access - you have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information
- to rectification - you have the right to ask us to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete
- to erasure - you have the right to ask us to erase your personal information in certain circumstances
- to restriction of processing - you have the right to ask us to restrict the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances
- to object to processing - you have the the right to object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances
- to data portability - you have the right to ask that we transfer the personal information you gave us to another organisation, or to you, in certain circumstances
You are not required to pay any charge for exercising your rights. If you make a request, we have 1 month to respond to you.
