Consultation on Ealing's pharmaceutical needs assessment 2025

This consultation will be open from 3 March until 4 May 2025.

Introduction

On behalf of Ealing’s health and wellbeing board, the council is consulting on its draft pharmaceutical needs assessment (PNA). This is a document that details the provision of pharmaceutical services in an area. The assessment needs to be carried out every 3 years, and the next one is due by the end of the September 2025.

The PNA is a report of the present needs for pharmaceutical services. It is used to identify any gaps in current services or improvements that could be made in future pharmaceutical service provision.

The PNA will be used by NHS England, Ealing Council, and the Integrated Care Board to:

  • make decisions when applications for new pharmacies are received
  • commission other services that could be delivered by community pharmacies and other providers

What are pharmaceutical services?

Pharmaceutical services are one of the many services currently provided under the NHS by community pharmacies and include:

  • dispensing of medicines and appliances on prescription
  • sale of medicines to the public
  • providing advice to the public on medicines, coping with ill health or general
  • health and well being
  • receiving waste medicines for safe destruction

Who are we consulting and why?

We are inviting views from any patient, consumer or community group in the borough who has an interest in the use or provision of pharmaceutical services. Your comments will inform the final pharmaceutical needs assessment, which will be published in September 2025.

Please read the Ealing Draft PNA and then complete a short survey

The consultation will be open from 3 March until 4 May 2025.
